Increase Release

Add Modulation

Use a very small amount of slow modulation.

The goal is barely noticeable movement.

You don’t necessarily want listeners to hear an obvious LFO.

Add Portamento

This is where things become interesting.

A small amount of portamento can allow notes to glide into one another.

Instead of playing 20 notes, try playing four great notes with slides and rhythmic variation.

Add Delay

A subtle delay can help the lead fill space without requiring a complicated melody.

Reverb can push it slightly further back in the mix.

Now your synth starts behaving more like an atmospheric countermelody.

5. Create a Soft R&B Pluck

Plucks are great when you need rhythm without another sustained instrument filling the arrangement.

Start with a saw or pulse waveform.

Then focus heavily on the envelope.

Amp Envelope

Use:

Attack: Fast

Decay: Short

Sustain: Low

Release: Short to medium

The sound should appear quickly and then fade.

Filter Envelope

Apply a similar shape to the filter.

Have the filter open briefly when the note begins and then close.

This creates the familiar plucked synth character.

Add Delay
